Ethiopian Festivals give you the chance to be part of an authentic experience unlike any other and to leave with enduring memories.
At Epiphany (Timket) on January 19th rituals and ceremonies center around replicas of the Ark of the Covenant, while Meskel on September 27th Commemorates the Findings of the True Cross. Ethiopian Christmas (Genna) on January 7th is unique and wondrous everywhere but particularly in Lalibela. Easter has its solemn rituals with sacred music and dance on April 8th .The victory of Adwa (1896) on March 2nd, had farther significance for being the first crushing defeat of European power by African forces during the colonial era.
Muslim marks the major events of their year including Ramadan, Eid Aladah and the birth of Prophet Mohammed (Mawlid) subject on moon sighting, with their traditional celebrations. Elsewhere festivals such as Kulbi Gabriel, Axum Mary Tsion, Irecha, Chambalala, Ashenda, Gishen Mariam and Dire Sheik Hussein draw vast crowds.
